Mercat Santa Caterina is the newest food market in Barcelona. It was completely renovated in 2005 and is located in the district of Ciutat Vella. The market is the most visited in the local area. Mercat Santa Caterina has a great selection of all kinds of fresh fruit, vegetables, chicken, seafood and a large selection of meat in all categories and cuts. There are several shops that specialize in the Spanish hams, including Bellota and there are tastings. You’ll also find a variety of tapas bars in the market that offers all the classic tapas and appetizers made of super fresh ingredients. Mercat Santa Caterina is definitely worth a visit.

La Grande Épicerie de Paris

In Le Bon Marche you find La Grande Épicerie de Paris. A nice shop with all the delicacies from around the world but particularly from France. Here is an incredibly wide selection of foie gras, terrines, fresh fruits and vegetables, including pineapple from French colonies with a much more delicate and sweet taste. A fish monger  with fresh lobsters and a wide range of other seafood. It is impossible to mention all the product types here. Many of the goods is absolutely fair price, but of course there are also items in the more expensive end of the scale, for example a cognac to 6,000 Euro. La Grande Épicerie de Paris also has a section with takeaway, both hot dishes, salads and sandwiches, All at a reasonable price and very delicious.
